Higgs's Story...
Higgs is a handsome Coonhound. He is 2 years old and came from a shelter in rural Kentucky. He was a stray and lucky for him he is more of a lover than a hunter so he may not have been missed. He has come to NY and into my home to charm me. He is all nose and long legs. At first he is afraid of new things. Noises in particular seem to startle him. I am not sure he was mistreated but it may be more likely he has more of a timid nervous Nelly personality. One of the things I enjoy most about him is watching his progress. When he first came 2 weeks ago his tail was between his legs, and now he is running in the fenced in yard playing with the other dogs with his tail wagging. He loves to play but loves to cuddle more. Hounds in general tend to like their creature comforts and this describes Higgs. He is happiest curled up in a ball next to my husband.

He is house trained but is not a fan of inclement weather and has to be strongly encouraged to go out when the weather is not to his liking. He is fine with other dogs, and cats. He is a timid loving soul who just appreciates any attention and love you send his way. He is a little nervous in a car but rides fine. He has not been a big barker other than to let me know when he has to come in.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Higgs, a Avon Coonhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Coonhound for sale in Avon, or seeking a Coonhound dog from a breeder in Avon.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Avon already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Avon breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Coonhound breeders who help with Coonhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Avon paves the way for another one to be saved.
