Sammy's Story...

This cutie is Sammy, she is a 7 year old Coonhound mix and has had a rough go of it the past few months, she started out in the Canyon County Animal Shelter, got adopted then those adopters couldn’t keep her due to their own medical issues and they turned her over to the Meridian Valley Humane Society who had her for awhile before Fuzzy Pawz took her in.

Despite being bounced around like that Sammy has taken it all is stride and is just the sweetest thing. She loves people and is very friendly; she will go up and politely greet any stranger she sees when she is out and about with her foster dad. Sammy is good with kids (no ear pullers though) and adults alike.

She is very good with other dogs and enjoys following her nose around the enclosed dog park in Meridian. Over the month she has been with us she to play with other dogs and has figured out that it is fun to steal the ball and run when playing a game of “fetch”. She is also reportedly good with cats. And despite her breed she is very quiet; about the only time you will hear a peep out of her is at a dog park and then is it a low bay. Sammy loves to go for walks and is pretty active. She does follow her nose so she tends to pull on the leash when she gets a whiff of something good.

Sammy is house trained but has not figured out a dog door. She likes to sleep in her kennel at night (the door is left open so she can come and go as she pleases); but is totally trustworthy left alone in the house by herself. Sammy knows to lay down on command and will sit for a treat. She does not know how to recall well but has improved in her time with us, but we still recommend NO off leash unless she is in a secure fenced area as she will follow her nose to the ends of the earth.

If you are looking for an easy going, low maintenance, happy girl to add to your family Sammy just might be the one! If interested please fill out an adoption application at

Sammy has been spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

There is a $40 adoption fee for Sammy.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Sammy, a Boise Redbone Coonhound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Redbone Coonhound for sale in Boise, or seeking a Redbone Coonhound dog from a breeder in Boise.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Boise already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Boise breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Redbone Coonhound breeders who help with Redbone Coonhound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Boise paves the way for another one to be saved.
