Speed's Story...
Hello! My name is Speed and I’m looking for my forever home. I was brought to Maxfund last summer when I was about five months old after I was found living on the streets. Everyone at the shelter was really nice and wanted to take care of me, but since I hadn’t been around people, it was kind of a scary place for me. I didn’t know what to make of everyone! Since I was so scared, I went into a foster home where a nice lady could work with me on my socialization one-on-one.

And boy did my foster mom spend lots of one-on-one time with me! She taught me how to play, and showed me how much fun it can be to play with those feather-on-a-string things! I love chasing after them! Those little toy balls are fun to bat around, too. I also love to sit on the cat condo in my room and watch the birds outside. Who would have thought people have such great toys?

My foster mom didn’t just play with me, though. She sat with me in my room a lot and just let me check her out. She was very patient and gentle with me, and I started trusting her enough to pet me and give me attention. And when she would pet me, I purred so loud, she always told me I sounded like a motor! I’m still not so sure of being picked up very often, but I’m becoming more confident around people. My foster mom always thought it was sweet that I hid my head when she would pet me, but since my confidence is growing, I don’t do that as much anymore. (That’s okay with my foster mom, too, because she thinks I’m even cuter when I look at her!) Although I am becoming more and more sure of myself around people, it still will take me some time to get to know you. Even with all the fun I’ve had with people, I’m still a little scared around them until I get a chance to check them out. I grew up on the streets without anyone to show me how great people can be, and I really want to see how wonderful you are! Will you be my forever person? I am back at the shelter just waiting for you.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Speed, a Denver Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Denver, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Denver.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Denver already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Denver breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Denver paves the way for another one to be saved.
