My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Madge" is a 2-yo spayed female GSD who is very affectionate and playful, yet also a good watchdog. She is very attached to her foster mom, and loves to give kisses and have her tummy rubbed. Madge is somewhat wary of strangers, and will bark when she meets somebody new. However, she does not act aggressively and calms down quickly. Madge's foster mom has yet to have her around young children, but we have no doubt that she will be gentle with them. She is great with other dogs, and presently lives with a male GSD who she plays with constantly. We do not know how Madge is with cats, so I am seeking a home without cats for her. Madge weighs about 70 lbs.

Madge is perfectly behaved in the house--she has yet to have an accident or chew anything she is not supposed to chew in her foster home. Madge has mastered some basic commands such as "sit", and is still learning "off." (She occasionally wants to jump up to hug her foster mom.) Madge walks very well on a leash, other than a little anxious pulling at the beginning of a walk.

When Madge arrived in her foster home on January 19, she was very thin and not long separated from having nursed puppies. She was originally protective of her food, but no longer--though she still tries to hide dog biscuits so that she can eat them later. It's likely that Madge was your typical rural backyard breeding dog who was not provided much human interaction. Madge is making up for lost time in the love department! We are seeking a home for Madge that will continue to spoil her with affection, and ideally have a male dog not far from her age for her to play with.

GSRSV rescued Madge from the Merced County Shelter on 1-9-13. Her adoption fee is $250.
