ABOUT US

The Citizens for Humane Animal Treatment of Wakulla, Inc., known as CHAT of Wakulla is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, charitable corporation committed to improving the health, safety, and well-being of domesticated animals. We are a limited intake organization (controlled by space available at the adoption center and available foster homes) with a guaranteed adoption policy. CHAT contracts with Wakulla County and operates the ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER at 1 Oak Street, Crawfordville, FL, 32327 (next to the WAKULLA ANIMAL CONTROL office and shelter).

We work closely with Wakulla Animal Control assisting with medical care for animals in their control and once animals have been held for five days (required by law), we bring animals into our care for foster and adoption. Upon entering CHAT's care, dogs are given shots for distemper, parvo, parainfluenza, hepatitis, bordatella, wormed, tested for heartworms (and treated when necessary) and there after given monthly heartworm preventatives. Upon entering CHATS care, cats are tested for Feline Leukemia/Feline Aids and intestinal parasites and dewormed and vaccinated for rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, chlamydia and leukemia.

Our phone number is 850-926-0890 and we'd love to hear from you, have you visit the Adoption Center and become a member of CHAT. Please visit our website (www.chatofwakulla.org) for more information about volunteering, fostering, donating and becoming a member. We are a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Articles of Incorporation were filed on August 8, 2001. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Cysco, a Crawfordville Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in Crawfordville, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Crawfordville.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Crawfordville already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Crawfordville breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Crawfordville paves the way for another one to be saved.
