Word of warning: When Yankee gazes at you with his amazing yellow eyes, he'll have you under his spell.
Yankee's markings are a wonder of nature. His body is patched and freckled and his big square head and Cheshire grin are unmistakably adorable. Even though he loves to play, he can be very chill when he's in a calm environment, and he'll drop on a dime when it comes to getting belly rubs. He's also smart as a whip and loves treats - a great combination when it comes to trainability.
In addition to all of Yankee's wonderful natural qualities, he has been working hard to be a dog you can take anywhere with pride. Yankee has been working on his Canine Good Citizen skills with APA staff and volunteers. To pass the American Kennel Club's CGC test (and be considered CGC-ready by APA), a dog must demonstrate obedience and general reliability in real world situations. An APA CGC-ready dog knows sit and down, walks nicely on leash, will sit calmly when you are approached by strangers or another dog, won't approach people or dogs without permission, stays in sit or down until told 'free,' and comes when called. This training is very connected to your dog's relationship with you, so regardless of where Yankee is in this training program at the time of adoption, APA will work with you to help you establish this relationship and keep the training going.
Yankee is solid and strong, although he is not a leash puller, and he will do well in an active family with no other pets who will make him an everyday part of their lives. This handsome socialite deserves lots of play and attention. Remember, all APA adoptions come with free behavior assistance through APA's behavior team.
Come and visit with Yankee...and mark your calendar as the day you met your best friend.
