My name is 'Yankee' and I am a 5-year old white and brown cat. I am a very quiet cat. I try to meow all the time, but all that comes out is a little squeak! I get along well with others, and I especially like humans. I like to be petted, and sometimes picked up. My favorite spot in the adoption room is on top of the kennels. I like to lounge up high so I can see everything that's going on! If you think I'm the cat for you, come out and meet me! I will be especially loving if you give me a treat. Actually, make that wet food, I LOVE wet food! Hurry on out!

About Our Shelter...
We are an animal shelter that cares for approximately 1,000 animals per year. We work with Mahaska County and the City of Oskaloosa, IA to provide animal control services and we also work through the Mahaska Humane Society to educate and promote responsible pet ownership as well as low cost spay/neuter services for low income pet owners.

The public can visit our adoptable pets at the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter any time during normal business hours. We are open to the public Tuesday-Friday 11am-5pm and Saturday 11am-4pm.

Our Adoption Process...
Potential adopters must complete a pre-adoption application in which questions regarding responsible pet ownership are asked. Once approved the adopter is allowed to adopt and must pay an adoption fee which varies based on the age and species of the animal being adopted. At the time of adoption the adopter must sign an adoption contract. All animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
