LENA's Story...

Lena is a 1yr old Chihuahua mix who came to us from the East Bay.

This little dog with the big smile takes her playful personality   wherever she goes as she saunters about making new people friends and works on her doggie social skills on her many daily jaunts. The ever curious Lena would love to be placed in a home that takes her to an exciting training class and keeps her active as she keeps you laughing with her humorous personality and her affectionate lap time proclivities. So if you’re looking for a date with “Fun” period, our lovely Lena is too! See Below

About Our Shelter...
Pets Unlimited was founded in 1947 by a group of citizens concerned about the welfare of San Francisco's stray animals. From a temporary shelter, they began rescuing dogs from the city pound and finding homes for them.

Over the years, the organization grew, and a veterinary hospital/shelter was purchased on Sacramento Street. It was here that the Pets Unlimited veterinary hospital began to serve the community's pets as well as their own shelter animals. The hospital income was used to expand the shelter and launch innovative charity, community and education programs.

In the mid-seventies Pets Unlimited moved to its present location on Fillmore Street. By 1989, the hospital expanded to a 24-hour emergency facility to meet the growing needs of the community. Over the years the scope of programs and services has grown substantially.

Pets Unlimited now offers complete medical care, extended shelter services, a foster family program, volunteer opportunities and community educational services, both on and off-site. In the past year, 328 cats and 59 dogs were adopted into new homes through the Pets Unlimited Adoption Center.

Since inception, the organization has been instrumental in saving the lives of more than 250,000 animals. By providing 24-hour veterinary care, community education and innovative adoption programs, Pets Unlimited has earned the reputation as the premier provider of comprehensive and humane animal treatment in the Bay Area.

Our Adoption Process...
The same general procedure applies whether adopting a dog, cat or a kitten. All interested candidates are asked to complete an adoption application and sit through a short interview with one of our adoption counselors. We require proof that a pet will be legally permitted in the home. (A copy of a rental agreement for tenants or a mortgage statement from a homeowner is acceptable.) If everything seems to match up well, signing necessary forms and payment of adoption fees will complete the process.

Although this may seem like a long procedure to adopt a pet, we try to take every step possible to ensure both our feline friends and our clients will be happy. Our Adoption Center staff treats each animal as family and knows the individual cat personalities well. We are always happy to offer suggestions or advice when someone is trying to decide which cat or kitten would be best for their individual situation.
