My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mia (aka Mrs. Mia “Mija” Wallace)

Mia is a beautiful petite black and white pit bull mix. She is still a little on the skinny side, currently weighing in at 40 pounds, but otherwise healthy. We don’t know Mia’s history as she was picked up as a stray. We think she is about 1 to 1-1/2 years old. She is very sweet and loves to cuddle. She will sit on the couch next to me and curl up into a little ball to sleep, all the while making sure she maintains contact with some part of my body. She makes the cutest little snorting sounds while she sleeps!

Mia plays energetically with resident dogs Logan and Seven, taking turns chasing and being chased. Mia is really fast and zooms around the yard, jumping and leaping through the air. She loves to play tug with both humans and dogs, and because she is so strong, she always wins! When Mia is excited, she has a very high energy, but she also calms down quickly when necessary.

Mia plays well with my dogs, however, she very much wants to be the center of attention. This could get her into trouble with some dogs, as she will jump up on the couch, right on top of another dog if that is what it takes for her to be near me. Mia isn’t aggressive about it, but she is assertive. I am working on her manners in that regard. If Mia were to be adopted to a household that already has a dog or dogs, she would do best with one that is patient and tolerant of puppy like behavior.

Mia loves going for rides in the car, so much so that upon entering the vehicle, she spins around and around, chasing her tail with the excitement of going for a ride. She quickly settles down and watches the scenery go by, or lays down for a nap.

Mia loves being with her human(s). She is quite the Velcro dog. She will happily follow me from room to room, and remain with me until it’s time to sit and relax on the couch. Mia’s ideal home would include a person or family who could spend a lot of time with her.

Mia does well when meeting new people. She has accompanied me to pet stores and even Home Depot, where she was quite a hit. One of the nice employees even brought out dog treats for her. Mia is very treat motivated, so Home Depot has become one of her favorite places to shop!

Mia is crate trained and is very good on leash. Mia is house trained, but she will need to be watched closely initially as so far she is not very good at alerting me that she needs to go to the bathroom. She was house trained with puppy pads, and she will use the pad if unable to go outside. However, since I have had her on a regular routine now she has not had an accident.

Mia is a quick learner and responds well to verbal commands. She knows “sit”, “stay”, “no”, “leave it”, and “come”. We are working on “down” and “off”. She plays well with other dogs but is not good with cats. Mia still has some puppyish habits like light mouthing when she gets really excited, but immediately stops with a verbal correction.

Mia is very friendly and does well with older children, but is so strong, she may be a bit much for small children, unintentionally knocking them over in her excitement to play.

Mia is a very good girl but is still learning some manners, and will need consistent training and discipline to help her understand what is expected of her. Mia needs someone who understands the importance of leadership and boundaries and who will be comfortable being her alpha.

Mia is spayed, current on shots, micro-chipped, and current on flea, tick, and heartworm preventative. Mia is being fostered in Sacramento, CA. If you are interested in Mia please email to request an adoption application. There is a $200.00 tax deductible adoption fee. A home check will be required to ensure each dog goes to an environment best suited for them.
