Sadie is an old soul kind of dog. When we saw her at Animal Control she appeared to have given up on life. She barely lifted her head. We opened her kennel and she stood up without much fanfare, walked out with us into an area away from the kennel. She was very overweight, had long nails, dry, brittle fur and ticks all over her. We sat with her, talking to her, removing the ticks and gentle rubbing her all over. After a little while we could see a bit of a light in her eyes again. Her tail wagged although it was a bit apprehensive, as if she was waiting for us to let her down again. We reassured her that she wasn't going back into the kennels and from this moment forward she would know love.
The volunteers worked their tender touch on Sadie's soul and with each moment you could see her let go of her past, gladly accepting the love and care that we gave her. Her tail began to wag regularly, her eyes full of light now and she freely gives kisses to her companions. Sadie walks like a dream on the leash, which is wonderful because our plump girl still needs to work on getting quite a few of those pounds off her frame.
Sadie is looking for a home that above all will love her for all the days of her life. Someone gave up on her in the past and it nearly killed our sweet girl. As mentioned she will need daily walks to continue to work on getting her to a healthy weight. Sadie is pretty low maintenance and happy to just hang out with you on the patio while you read or sit at your feet like you watch TV. If you are looking to be Sadie's lifelong companion and walking partner, please complete an application for her today. She is eager to hear from you - www.azrescue.org.
Sadie weighed 76 pounds when we saved her from the kill list.
