Avalon's Story...
This is one of 200 Malamutes seized in an animal cruelty case in Montana. They’ve not had much socialization, so they can be shy towards humans. Being with another dog helps them gain confidence. Their instinct is to run and hide. Avalon is about 6 years old and 55 lbs after having gained 20 lbs since the seizure. She started out terrified of being touched or of a hand coming towards her. However, with patience, reassurance and treats, Avalon has learned that you won’t hurt her. She’s a gentle natured girl who would love to live with a large male dog. Typical Malamute, Avalon will not tolerate a female dog, cats or other small pets. Many thanks to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Helena, MT for the love and care given to these special Mals.

If you are interested in adopting, please email MalRescueDE@gmail.com for an application. Once your application is processed, a home visit is required. There is an adoption fee of $225 for each adult dog. Our dogs are healthy, spayed or neutered, up to date on shots, and heartworm negative. Unfortunately rescues don't have the ability to hold dogs for adopters. Dogs are adopted to approved adopters on a first come, first serve basis. Our goal is to get a dog adopted to a forever home so that we can then help another one. If you are interested in one of our dogs, the first step is to request an application, which is typically sent to you the same day you have emailed your request. We process your application the day it is received. The next step is a home visit, and then you will be invited to meet the dogs. While we represent the State of Delaware, the majority of AMROD’s dogs are fostered in west-central Virginia. Contact preference is by email, malrescuede@gmail.com, rather than by phone. We appreciate you considering an AMROD dog!

  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Augusta County breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Alaskan Malamute breeders who help with Alaskan Malamute rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Augusta County paves the way for another one to be saved.
