My Time with Prada 2013
I met Prada in January 2013. At that point in time she was heartworm positive and had given birth
to puppies. She was underweight and starving for attention. During her treatment and recovery
from heartworm she needed to be kept calm; this meant long periods of time in a crate and only
leash walking to go potty or get a little bit of exercise. I had to do this for 4 weeks. At her 2nd
treatment the vet said that she had gained 9 lbs since being with me and appeared to be very
healthy. She was given the all clear to run and play and exercise all she wanted. That’s when the
real fun began.
Prada has a lot of energy and a lot of love to give. It takes her a while to calm down but she’s just
so excited to have people touch and pet her she’s all wiggles and kisses. She enjoys a long game of
fetch with a large tennis ball or long Kong toys. She does bring them back toward you just not all
the way back to you. Prada is treat motivated and is eager to please. Currently she knows how to
sit with treats, we were working on down but she’s so excited this has been a difficult task for her.
Once she has been outside for a bit and given a chance to settle down in the house she will lay
down with a bone to chew on for long periods of time. She is a chewer but only seems to chew the
things that I give her (chew bones, Kongs stuffed with goodies, bully sticks etc.) She has a tendency
to shred the blankets in her crate but she is crate trained and for the most part house broken. She
didn’t have a lot of time to interact with my 7yr old Pit Bull, Maiko but they didn’t really seem to
mind being around each other.
I also know that she has a little bit of separation anxiety but she just cries for a little while when
I’ve been out of her sight. She does settle down after about 10 minutes or so. She played well with
my goddaughter and her little brother (ages 4 and 3). Prada did not jump on them. She gave them
lots of kisses and tail wags. My hope is that she finds a furever home with a very active family. One
that will take her for long walks and who will enjoy playing fetch with her in the backyard. I believe
she will make an awesome pet with some more training and love.
