Yogi Berra's Story...
I came to AWLMC from the Montgomery County Humane Society. I had an owner, but when she moved she left me with the a roommate. The roommate was not able to care for me, so she took me to the county to find a new home. Lucky for me AWLMC brought me to this amazing shelter. I am a handsome brown and white tabby. I am affectionate and loving. I purr, letting you know how happy of a cat I am. I have a big voice and like to use it. I talk a lot! I will tell you all about my day and will ask you how your day went too. I am a playful guy too! I like to be picked up and held. I will start purring instantly. I love to play under blankets and with wand toys. I don’t mind other dogs either. I am very active and curious and like to explore everything. Stop by and see me today. I was born in 2007.

About Our Shelter...
As many of you may already know, we have a mission: To enhance the lives of Montgomery County Maryland residents and animals through programs directed at education, adoption, animal shelter, and low cost spay/neuter. The AWLMC is committed to ending the euthanasia of adoptable animals in Montgomery County Maryland. With this in mind, we are partnering with the county shelter to help save the most at-risk animals. Currently, we are only working with cats. We hope to be able to add a dog program soon.

In order to save as many cats as possible, we have opened a no-kill shelter in Gaithersburg. We need your help in the form of direct financial donations and by volunteering your time. Our organization is strong and full of highly dedicated volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, professions and abilities. We are working together to save the lives of cats and kittens, to find them loving, forever homes and to have them spay/neutered. All of our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

We are the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.

Our Adoption Process...
All members of the adopter's household should be present at the adoption.

For all adopters who rent their home, we must see a copy of the adopter's lease or rental agreement showing that pets are allowed.

Current adoption fees: $125 for adults (cats over 1 year old) and kittens.
All of our cats and kittens are spayed/neutered. We currently accept only check or cash, although we hope to be able to accept credit cards in the future.

Potential adopters are required to fill out an application and to be interviewed by an AWLMC adoption counselor.

We can request home visits or vet checks prior to approving anyone for adoption.

Upon approval, the adopter must sign an adoption contract.

Adopters must have proof of ID (a driver's license or other government issued identification).

We will follow up on our adoptions which can include e-mails, phone calls, home visits, and vet checks.

These rules are subject to change.
