A little about Rufus: Rufus is about 3 yrs old, and 60 lbs. He is a great dog! He loves to run around and play outside. He lives with several other dogs right now and gets a long with them very well. He is submissive so sometimes when he gets picked on he rolls on his back. He shows no aggression towards food, or other dogs. He is so happy to be out of the shelter and alive, it's adorable. He just wants to cuddle and have your attention. And he is a licking monster!!! No cats!
I believe he would do great in a home with another dog, one that isn't territorial only due to the fact that he is very active and loves the attention from everyone that I would be afraid another dog would think he is taking over.
He is a smart boy! He knows the standard: sit, stay, shake, and down. He is pretty good with responding to his name and coming right away. He is house trained as well. He does have a lot of energy and is very strong so he will need someone that can be a strong leader and give him some training. I have started some at home training with him since my roommate is a dog trainer, and I am trying to get him to walk on a leash without pulling and biting the leash. At night I put Rufus in a crate so he gets used to spending time in the crate without thinking he's doing something wrong.
His forever home needs to be somewhere with a big backyard for an active dog. He would do best without small children, due to his size and energy. It is important that the family is willing to take him for walks or to a dog park to play, and can give him a lot of attention. While he does have a lot of energy I am currently working on when he comes inside and we are watching tv, that it is quiet time- time to relax and cuddle... He is catching on, it takes about 5-10 mins for time to get the hint but he is getting it :)
