This is Alec. Alec is a very sweet and scrawny little cat. He loves to be held and kneads into the air in the most endearing way. He has one small eye which he cannot see out and we think he is at least 9 or 10 years old. He is very laid back and easy-going with other cats.
Alec was one of 42 (?) cats from a hoarding situation who ended up at the city shelter. We were asked to take Alec to help him recover from his ordeal.
Alec was originally so weak when he came to BARCS that he could not stand. He is now getting around with some difficulty using his back legs.
Our theory is that he was crated for a very long time, possibly due to a Urinary Tract Infection, causing him to lose muscle mass. He has sores on the bottom of his back 'knees' probably from sitting for long periods. Alec had an advanced UTI which had progressed to his kidneys, causing their function to suffer. After a very long course of antibiotics his kidney function is now back in normal range, although he is still receiving fluids every other day and eating K/D kidney food.
Meeting adoptable cats: Adoptions are conducted by appointment or at Saturday adoption events.
Most of our cats are in foster homes, but you can meet some of our adoptables if you stop by the Petco in Owings Mills (10383 Reisterstown Road) on the following days/times:
--- Wednesdays, 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM || Open House
--- Saturdays, 11 AM - 4 PM || Adoption Events

We do adoptions by appointment or through adoption events which we hold every weekend. Please visit our website, www.baltimorecats.org for a calendar of events.
All of our cats are altered, vaccinated (age-appropriate), tested for Feline Leukemia, microchipped, dewormed and treated for fleas before adoption. A free 30-day health insurance policy from ShelterCare comes with each cat automatically.
Our adoption fees are as follows:
$90 for any cat over 6 months
$150 for a pair of cats over 6 months
$125 for a kitten under 6 months
$210 for two kittens under 6 months
