Meet Oakley! Oakley is an adorable 7-year-old dachshund mix, and she weighs approximately 30 lbs. She may be considered a “senior” in the dog world, but Oakley still has a long life ahead of her, as dogs her size generally live into their mid-teen years.
Oakley’s sweet nature and soulful brown eyes have made her a staff favorite here at Home ‘Fur’ Good. She is a very mellow girl. As you can see from her picture, she is also very patient, and she’s willing to put up with some good-natured Halloween costume fun!
Oakley’s favorite activities include receiving belly rubs, going on short walks, and napping! She would make a great movie-watching buddy. Don’t let Oakley’s laid-back nature fool you, though; she’s extremely loyal and loving, too. She gets very excited when she sees someone she knows; her ears perk up and her tail wags a mile a minute! She may even try to jump up into your lap (which isn’t easy, given her stubby dachshund legs)! When you stop petting her, she may gently nudge your hand as if to say, “Don’t forget about me!” She really wants nothing more than to love and be loved.
Oakley can be dog-selective at times, especially when she feels protective of her “person” when she’s on a leash. She may be shy when you first meet her, but if you give her some treats, she’ll become your new best friend in no time! Oakley had surgery several months ago to remove some fatty tumors on her belly. All the tumors were all benign, so she has a clean bill of health!
Please give Oakley a chance to become a part of your home!
A FOSTER TO ADOPT option is available for Oakley. Only those truly interested in adopting Oakley should contact us regarding this option.

Help this Shelter by making a donation.
Home Fur Good is a non profit no kill animal shelter located in the NE Valley. We take a majority of our cats and dogs from County, many who have treatable medical conditions and would otherwise be put down. We assess physical and behavior and work with the cats/dogs to find the best suitable match. It is our goal that each cat or dog that comes to our shelter ultimately be placed in their "furever" homes.
We also operate a low cost vaccine and microchip clinic each Sunday. We want to help community be able to care for and keep their animals safe. We do not charge vet fee only fee for vaccine and microchip.
Go to www.homefurgood.org to see where you can meet our available pets.
We do adoptions from shelter every Thursday 11:30am to 3:30 pm and we are at Petsmart Tatum and Shea every weekend; Fri. 1:00 - 6:00, Sat. & Sun. 10:30 - 4:30. Please check our website for more specifics.
Home Fur Good requires an approved application. We have trained adoption counselors to review and question any potential problems/issues with application. We do require an adoption fee which ranges for dogs $150-$275 and for cats $50-$100. All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and come with 30 days of pet health insurance.
If another dog or dogs are present in the household we require a meet and greet prior to adoption. All members of the household must be on board with adoption. We do not adopt our rescues out without meeting person that will be responsible - no "gift" adoptions. We contract that if cat/dog must be relinquished they are returned to us. If there is a change of ownership we must be kept informed who responsible party is. Fees are non refundable.
