My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there. My name is Barbie and I feel like such a lucky lady. A few months ago some nice people rescued me from the streets of Houston with my 2 puppies. All of the rest of my puppies died so I was thankful we were rescued before we were all hit by cars or got sick from diseases. When I got to my new foster home I was so happy to have a break from puppies after so many years of litters. My foster mom said “no more puppies for you sweet girl”. I don’t know what that means but I’ve been able to relax ever since. My foster mom took me to the vet and got me all of the medicines I needed and also got me spayed. I have heartworms but my foster mom is doing a “slow kill” method and she says I won’t have any more worms in my heart after I‘m tested in one year. I don’t need very much attention and I’m happy to sleep in my doggie bed and snooze the days away. I’ve had a hard life on the streets and I don’t get in a hurry for much of anything. Mommy says I have perfect house manners and do not need a crate. She put me in a cage the first day and I made it clear that it scared me very much and I wanted out. Since then I am allowed to stay out in what mommy calls “general population” while she is at work. I like to go on short walks but not too far or I will plop down in the grass until my mom gives in and turns around to head home. Afterall, I’m a curvy girl and I don’t want to exercise them away. I spent my younger years walking and walking looking for food and taking care of my babies, now I just want to stay home and keep my person company. I need a calm, quiet home where someone will enjoy my gentle nature and perfect manners. I would make a wonderful companion for an elderly person and we can keep each other company. I love all dogs I meet and even cats too. Doesn’t that sound awesome? I’m always so quiet in my foster home that my mom tells me I’m the “best” even over her own dogs. I promise to be a good girl for my new owners too. Will you give me a chance to love you forever? Love, Barbie
