My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sparkey is a very beautiful dog, as we have been told by everyone he meets. He is a young dog and weighs just under 50 lbs making him a great size for just about any size home. He is a very cheerful boy who seems to love life and everyone in it. Sparkey is extremely intelligent and learns commands quickly, but would greatly benefit from further training to help his true identity sparkle.

Here is what else his foster family had to say:

Sparkey has definitely made his presence known through his loving and playful nature. While you are out walking the neighbourhood, he will be curious of cars and enjoys saying hi to all the dogs and people. When we have introduced him to family and friends, he has always been full of energy and loves to meet new people.

Although Sparkey is very intelligent and learns quickly, he is not food driven, but would rather receive love and affection as his reward for good behaviour. Sparkey has never barked in the house and only one or two times outside with a very gently 'woof' when he is asking the neighbours dog to play. He is completely house trained as well as crate trained. He walks into his crate with ease and will sleep in his crate until you let him out in the morning. During the day he is free to roam the house while his foster dad works from home.

When Sparkey arrived in our care he was unsure of his name and did not know any commands. Within 24 hours he was responding to his name, within 48 hours he knew sit and he is working on shaking a paw as well as stay (due to his curious personality 'stay' seems to be harder than 'shake' and 'sit'). He will need a family that is willing to continue on with his training but as mentioned he learns quickly and is very eager to please. We are currently working on teaching him to walk nicely on leash. He would be a real hit at obedience class and would excel.

Sparkey has not been exposed to children, but is very social and happy with everyone he meets. We do not believe he would be a problem for anyone, however he is very excitable and he needs to be taught to sit politely when meeting someone. He would do well in any home; however, he does have a lot of energy and when playing he may become too much for really young children. No matter where he encounters other dogs he wants to play with them, regardless of size or breed. We are unsure of others animals but do to his friendly nature the only problem would probably be that he would want to play with them.

Sparkey does still have a lot of puppy in him and lots of energy so would need a good daily walk each day and a backyard to run around and play in. He would do well as an only dog or with another friendly, playful dog in the home. He would love some kids that would like to go out and toss a ball around for him or have a good game of chase. He is so friendly you could take him anywhere and he would enjoy being part of the family, summer camping or any other outdoor fun.

Sparkey is a loving dog who has warmed the hearts of his foster family. He is an absolute joy to foster and any family who is given the privilege of adopting Sparkey will be extremely lucky.
