Shelby-Prison Dog's Story...
Shelby was adopted from Friendship as a pup and recently returned. She was a good girl in her former home but grew bigger than her owners thought she would and it wasn't a good fit. Shelby is a playful and active one year old. She was very loving in her home but a little too protective of the kids in the family. Shelby is living with other dogs at the prison and is fine with older kids.

Shelby is now one of Friendship's Prison Dogs. She will be trained in obedience, basic commands, manners and leash walking among other things. Shelby started her training on February 14, 2013 and will spend the next 8-12 weeks at the Grafton Correctional Facility. If you are interested in adopting Shelby, applications are now being accepted. They can be downloaded at www.friendshipapl.org or you can fill one out at the shelter. All apps must be hand delivered to Friendship. If you have any questions, please call the shelter at 440-322-4321.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Shelby-Prison Dog, a Elyria Retriever (Unknown Type)/Australian Shepherd dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Australian Shepherd for sale in Elyria, or seeking a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Australian Shepherd dog from a breeder in Elyria.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Elyria already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Elyria breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Retriever (Unknown Type)/Australian Shepherd breeders who help with Retriever (Unknown Type)/Australian Shepherd rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Elyria paves the way for another one to be saved.
