About Our Rescue Group...
Please visit our website at www.OscarAnimalRescue.org

One Step Closer Animal Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit organization. We are a smaller rescue group that focuses on animals in desperate situations. We rescue dogs and cats from shelter where they have no room and euthanaize due to space or no food. All of our animals we rescue are fully vetted and spayed/neutered, unless they are too young to be altered. They are all great animals very deserving of great homes. Our rescue was created through the desire to save more lives that all our members have. We all have a passion to save animals as well as a commitment to ensure great futures for all our animals we rescue.

Our dogs/cats are not first come/first serve. We place our dogs/cats with the home that is the best fit for them. Not all animals are good in all homes, whether it’s their personalities, nature, or breed. We base our decision on what’s best for the dog/cat and the family. Thanks for understanding!

Supplies we need:
Crates/Kennels (wire or plastic)
Paper Towels
Dog Bowls
Dog/Puppy Food (dry and canned)
Flea Medications (spray or monthly)

Collars-all sizes
Dog Beds
Cleaning Supplies (bleach, pinesol, paper towels..etc.)
Plastic Gloves (medium and large)
Puppy Play Pens (aka X pens)
Dog Treats/Bones

YOU CAN HELP!

ADOPTING—For pets near you, check out: www.petfinder.com or www.adoptapet.com or www.dogsindanger.com
Don’t buy while others die. You’re new best friend is closer than you realize.

FOSTERING—You can take a dog or cat into your home for a period of time (1 week to a few months). You take care of them and give them the extra time they need until they find a home of their own. Many animals are very adoptable but are in high-kill shelters where they only have 3 days to find a home. Most just need more time to find their new family. This is a very rewarding experience to know YOU were the reason they are alive.

TRANSPORTING—These volunteer “legs” (usually 45 minutes to 1½ hour each way) are the difference between life and death for most animals. Many shelters down south put to sleep 250 dogs per week. It’s unbelievable, but it’s true. Many rescues up north have the room and can rescue these dogs; it’s just a matter of getting people/families to volunteer to drive a leg. Each leg varies according to area, availability of transporters, and rescues. How it works is a coordinator sets up a run sheet that they send out with a route on it, people volunteer for the leg in their area that best fits into their schedule or their hearts. If you want to sign up please go to: http://www.roadwarriors.350.com/Sign_up.htm

SUPPLY DRIVE—We collect old blankets, towels, sheets; small, medium & large dog collars, leashes; carriers/crates; dog food; dog beds; and monetary donations for vet bills (spay/neuter).

FUNDRAISING—We are always looking for people to help with events and even plan them.

Thousands of animals are saved each month by a network of rescuers who work together.
Please join us and help make a HUGE difference!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Jordan, a Sparta Pug dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Pug for sale in Sparta, or seeking a Pug dog from a breeder in Sparta.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Sparta already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Sparta breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pug breeders who help with Pug rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Sparta paves the way for another one to be saved.
