My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buddy, a very joyful and affectionate boy, has been a delight to foster since he came into rescue. Dropped at Animal Control, through no fault of his own, the former owners said he was about age 11. This seems a bit off to us, as his energy and behavior seem more in the 8-year-old range. Buddy is a beautifully behaved and friendly dog. He has never once used the inside of the house as a bathroom. He has never once damaged anything. Buddy does not get up on furniture. We have tried to teach him that relaxing on the sofa is fine (maybe not a good thing for foster parents to do, but our dogs all use our furniture at will), but he does not like to be there. When Buddy came into rescue, he weighed a hefty 58 pounds and had a 34-inch waist. After dieting and lots of activity, he is down to a more svelte 43 pounds. He could probably stand to lose a bit more weight, but Buddy looks wonderful and is full of energy. He loves his walks in the park and will dance around when excited. He needs a family with a fence so that he has ample opportunity for exercise. He loves attention and affection and will solicit being petted and, occasionally, cuddled. He loves our other dogs and behaves well with all of them, from the elderly and aggressive tiny foster Maltese to our “big girls” who weigh 80 and 105. Our cats are in a separate area of the house but, when Buddy has encountered one coming by in a carrier, he has been very, very excited. We are not sure if this is a manifestation of prey drive or just excitement. He exhibited the same behavior when the foster Maltese joined the household but, once able to meet the Maltese (with Buddy on leash), all Buddy wanted to do was meet and sniff. He was not interested in perpetrating harm and the two interact constantly now and this has always been just fine. We love Buddy and hope that he will find a family who can offer him love, walks, lots of affection, and will keep an eye on his weight. He does well with ½ cup of dry food and ½ can of green beans or pumpkin twice daily. Buddy is otherwise healthy, on heartworm and flea prevention and does fine at the vet’s office. He is a love and whomever adopts him will be fortunate, indeed, to have him in the family.

Contact Mindy at mmiller@beaglebuddies.org to obtain an application. Submit the application form and we will schedule a time to meet the pet. If interested in adopting we require a home visit and an adoption agreement with a fee. Our adoption fees are $100 if over 5 years, $125 if younger than 5 years but older than 1 year, and $175 if younger than 1 year. All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, are up to date on vaccinations, and a copy of vet records is provided upon adoption to set up a file at your vet. We supply collar, temporary ID tag until you can use till you get one, and leash. All beagles are micro-chipped as well.
