My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Here is our little Hope! As you can see she came through her ordeal and is now thriving in her foster home. She is a darling little dog that would be ideal for a single person looking for a little companion. It would be nice if someone were home more often than not and who was willing to continue giving this little darling the TLC she deserves. She is an adult dog and currently weighs 8 lbs.

Hope came to us in a deplorable state as shown on Ugly Mutts facebook page. She was named Hope by a vote of our facebook fans and we think it suits her perfectly.

Here is what her foster mom had to say:

Hope is an affectionate, loving, little dog who wants to be close to you at all times. She follows me around the house, and the moment I sit down anywhere, she will hop up onto my lap. Having said that, she also enjoys playing with all the other dogs, and is very playful and does not hesitate to engage them in play, regardless of their size. She is so much fun to watch as she prances around the house, like a Queen in her castle!

Hope is now healthy and looks adorable! She is well behaved and does not try to steal food, if I leave a bowl on the coffee table..her face will be in there very quickly, but if it is on the counter it is safe! I have not had any issues with her chewing on anything she should not. I find that Hope listens more to the tone of my voice than actually knowing the commands. I do not believe she has had much training. She knows that as soon as we go outside she is to go to the bathroom, but without frequent opportunities she wouldn't be able to hold it. I am working on this however pee pad training might be a solution if her new family were going to be out of the house for long hours each day.

Hope is trained to be in a crate and I am using one. She has been left alone for a couple hours at a time and has no problems with it. She does whine and whimper a little at first, but if she thinks that you are not around, she stops immediately. I leave a little stuffed animal, a blanket and water in there for her. She has never messed in her crate.

Hope is fully leash trained and LOVES to walk and explore. She takes the lead and off we go on a regular bases. I was putting a jacket on her because she was so tiny but she is much happier without it. She has escaped a couple of times and does run..but I have found that if I squat down to her level she comes running back and jumps up on me. Hope stands at the door patiently waiting and has not tried to run past me to get out. She is usually trying to give me kisses as I squat down to put my boots on!

Hope is social with everyone and just wants to play. She is ALWAYS friendly and happy. I do not have any cats, but Hope has had interaction with dogs of all sizes and is friendly with them all. She is very quiet in the home and would be fine in an apartment.

Hope needs to be in a home that will give her lots of love and with people who are happy and affectionate. The home does not need to be active, but she will need to be walked frequently until she is totally trained. Even then, she loves walking so much that it is important that gets walked at least twice a day. She has so much love to give, and will be an amazing addition to any family.

If you would like to make Hope part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
