This sweet girl is about two-years-old and is hoping to find her happily ever after, after a series of hard knocks. Her first home was with a soldier who, when called overseas, had no one to care for her and was forced to surrender her to an animal shelter. She was swiftly adopted by a wonderful family who loved her and cared for her well. They were simply devastated when their child began having allergic reactions to animal dander and the pediatrician said the family dog would have to go. They looked high and low for alternatives for Iggy, decided Almost Home was the safest place for her, and are taking an active part in helping to choose her new family. While it is a sad story, we are fortunate to know Iggy's history (in so many cases, we don't) and know that she has been loved and treated well in the past . . . and it shows!
Iggy really is the perfect family dog! She is on the small to medium size, about 45 pounds, which makes her the perfect size for indoor living. She's an experienced nanny to very young children and tolerates their antics with patience and gentleness. We cannot stress enough how much this girl loves her people. She is quick to trust and bond and will show you her belly almost immediately upon meeting you . . . and asking for belly rubs is how a dog says "I trust you completely!"
Iggy loves to interact with male dogs and will quickly engage with them in puppy-play. If her new home has a resident dog, it would need to be a larger male, as she is not very quick to warm up to females. Iggy is fully house and crate trained, takes treats gently, knows basic commands and is even an experienced jogging partner. She does have a lot of energy, but is very good about using it appropriately and following your lead.
Iggy would like her next home to be her last. She wants a family to love and grow old with, would love to be in a home with children and wouldn't mind an older canine brother. Will you be the family to make her dream come true? Iggy is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and ready for her happily ever after!
