Willow's Story...
Willow and Wisp are two 6 month old female chinchillas. They are wonderfully sweet and love attention and soft petting on their luxurious coats. Both girls must be adopted together as chinchillas need to have a buddy, and since these two have been together likely from birth, they will not be separated.

If you have decided to add a chinchilla to your family, you want to make sure she is happy, healthy, and safe. To do this you need to have everything necessary for your chinchillas well being. A proper chinchilla cage needs to be chew proof and at least at least 16″ x 20″ x 16″ minimum in size per one chinchilla. In their cage you should provide wooden shelves for perching and climbing (and chewing!), a place to hide (you can even use a cardboard box with an opening cut out), pellet bowl (not plastic as they will chew and ingest it), water bottle (glass), a wheel (do not use wheels with mesh like openings as your chinchillas feet will get stuck and that can lead to them breaking their foot or even worse, their spine, which is fatal), and safe non-chemically treated chew toys (willow is a favorite). Chinchillas need a stable diet of timothy hay unlimited everyday, chinchilla pelleted foods by Oxbow, ZuPreem, or Mazuri brands as well. Chinchillas need exercise and human companionship to live a long and happy life. Remember, chinchillas are not a pet for children, they are a long term commitment of over 15 years.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Willow, a Pittsburgh Chinchilla was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chinchilla for sale in Pittsburgh, or seeking a Chinchilla from a breeder in Pittsburgh.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Pittsburgh already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Pittsburgh breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chinchilla breeders who help with Chinchilla rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Pittsburgh paves the way for another one to be saved.
