Beauregard's Story...
Beauregard: 6 to 7 yr old male Red Persian

This wonderful boy's mom went into hospice care and dad went to assisted living. Beauregard was living alone for 3 weeks in their
4000 sq ft home which was being emptied and catalogued for the estate sale. The floor was covered with the contents of the house. One of our volunteers dropped everything and drove to get him in the nick of time. They had to have him out of the house before the huge sale started. It was us or the shelter. Of course our volunteer fell in love with him during the week she had him before she could bring him down to me.

Here's what she wrote about him

> " When I went to pick him up he had been locked in an empty house for
> 3 weeks. Someone had come in and left clean water and a huge
> dish of food but no company for this lovely, people friendly boy.
> He so wanted to be petted but he was afraid of the new voices.
> Slowly he allowed me to pet him at a long armed stretch and then I
> managed to scoop him up. What a big boy!! What muscle, what a
> beautiful coat and golden eyes! All the way home he chatted with me
> with his little voice...he had so much to share from his time alone.
> As my days with him grew I found that he had lots to say, a wonderful
> quiet "Good morning" when everyone got up. Later in the
> day he would seek me out just to chat, again a quiet lovely voice.
> Never pushy or loud but obviously so much wanting to be part of the
> family. For such a big boy he really is a gentle kitten. His little
> bottom wiggles as he gets ready to play with the laser light or the
> toys, he greets the other kitties with gentleness...never pushy or
> loud. When you are sitting on a chair he comes to your feet and waits
> to be invited to come up and sit beside you....such a gentleman !! He
> loves to be groomed and brushed and to have you play and kiss his tiny
> little ears. What a perfect gentleman.....
> a big armful of love. Someone will be so lucky !! "

At 11 pounds Beauregard is a pretty big boy for a Persian - but not as big as he looks since he is mostly hair. And heart . He came to us in good shape and good health. We have his vet records which show him to have been a healthy, trouble free boy. Beau lets us fuss with him and wash his face. Like most Persian he needs a daily washing around his eyes. Brushing him is a little love session.

He has a little reserve in him. A little politeness and sadness. He has been through a lot recently and I expect his reserve is due to that. It is hard on a tender little persian boy to pick up all the sadness and grief and stress of his family's leaving their home and all that is involved in that. And of course he lost his family. It will be good for him to feel the love and rhythms of a new family and start his new life.

He originally lived with another cat and is cat friendly. I think he also would do well in a home as an only cat.

He eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

His foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Beauregard, a Davis Persian cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Persian for sale in Davis, or seeking a Persian cat from a breeder in Davis.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Davis already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Davis breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Persian breeders who help with Persian rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Davis paves the way for another one to be saved.
