Howard Hughes's Story...
I came to AWLMC from the Montgomery County Humane Society. I am a handsome medium-haired brown tabby. I have lots of fur coming out my ears, my legs are fluffy and I have a super fluffy tail. Just look at me! I am cute! I am super sweet and social. I am young and love to play. Bring on the toys! I am very affectionate and love to be petted and loved on. I will also talk and trill and tell you all about my day. I enjoy being held and sitting in my person’s lap. Come see me and my friends today. I was a stray. I was born in 2011.

About Our Shelter...
As many of you may already know, we have a mission: To enhance the lives of Montgomery County Maryland residents and animals through programs directed at education, adoption, animal shelter, and low cost spay/neuter. The AWLMC is committed to ending the euthanasia of adoptable animals in Montgomery County Maryland. With this in mind, we are partnering with the county shelter to help save the most at-risk animals. Currently, we are only working with cats. We hope to be able to add a dog program soon.

In order to save as many cats as possible, we have opened a no-kill shelter in Gaithersburg. We need your help in the form of direct financial donations and by volunteering your time. Our organization is strong and full of highly dedicated volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, professions and abilities. We are working together to save the lives of cats and kittens, to find them loving, forever homes and to have them spay/neutered. All of our cats and kittens are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

We are the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Howard Hughes, a Gaithersburg Domestic Mediumhair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Mediumhair for sale in Gaithersburg, or seeking a Domestic Mediumhair cat from a breeder in Gaithersburg.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Gaithersburg already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Gaithersburg breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Mediumhair breeders who help with Domestic Mediumhair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Gaithersburg paves the way for another one to be saved.
