My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can practically see Gavin's soul through his eyes...beautiful light brown eyes that are too fearful to really look into the camera. That's why his pictures are not that great. :( When he hears or sees the sound of a camera, he gets very nervous so it's hard to take his picture. Gavin spent time in two Southern shelters before making his way to BRL. He had a rough time battling parasites and settling in, but he was transported to us as a healthy 40 lb. Beagle-Basset Hound mix and now we just need to find him that special home. He is about 3-5 years old - anyone's guess really. He has definitely seen more in his life than a dog should. Once he trusts enough for you to pet him, he seems to just melt into you and doesn't want you to stop. It does take him some time to warm up to new people, though, so he will need very patient adopters and a quiet home. He is quite nervous and skittish and bolts when nervous, so we think a fenced in yard for safety would be ideal. He does walk nicely on lead, though, so long as you are prepared for him to bolt when a noise startles him. Gavin has done well with all of his canine and feline foster siblings, so we do not have worries with getting along with other pets. They may help him feel more comfortable, in fact. Gavin is crate trained, enjoys his crate, and is working on his housetraining. He is still settling in, but has enjoyed chewing on various hard toys and nylabones, We think he will make a wonderful companion to the right patient adopter who can convince him that he really has arrived at his forever home and his life of change and uncertainty is over.. Can you commit to helping Gavin learn to trust for the rest of his life? We hope so. Your reward in return will be tenfold and your life, too, will be changed forever.
