My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella has a very sweet personality and beautiful eyes. She is a great buddy around the house and is a great hiking partner. Bella loves loves loves the outdoors and loves a good nap afterwards. She would do best in a rural/suburban home with regular walks and/or daily exercise. She would be wonderful as a single's jogging companion or a member of a family with older children. Bella is an active 5 year old girl. She is a tall girl and weighs approximately 70 - 75 lbs.

Bella is a very social girl! She loves everyone including respectful children of all ages. While she really enjoys meeting new people, she prefers men over women and turns into a total suck with them. She is a very gentle girl and can be totally trusted around children. She is great with other respectful dogs and has never shown any aggression even when the other dog was acting out towards her or was not interested in playing with her - she will just back off and walk away. Bella has never acted out to any people, but she does have a tendency to talk which some people may misinterpret but she is just a chatty girl.

I believe that Bella would do best with another friendly dog playmate. She also really LOVES the kitties. She is very focused on the cats that stay out of reach to her but all she wants is to play and cuddle them. Only one of our cats play and cuddle her so she fixates on the other cats ( whining and pacing when they are out of reach). She would do best is a cat free home or a cat who thinks they are a dog and was not afraid of Bella's size or affections.

Bella is very respectful of food, she is tall enough that seeing what is on the counter is very easy but she never touches anything. She does enjoy a little sniff and then is on her way. She is well behaved and knows her basic commands and is very good at come, sit, stay, down, drop it, bring it here and loves to play fetch. Bella is very ball motivated! The other day on our walk Bella found a tennis ball a good 20 minute walk from the house , and she so proudly carried that ball the entire 20 minutes home! Bella has had no accidents in the house and will ask to go out. She also learned the dog door within the first 2 days she was here! She loves going outside. Bella can be crated. After the first initial minutes of leaving her she quiets down, but if she hears her people she does become anxious in the crate as she just wants to be with you. I believe in her forever home she would not need to be crated as she is very trustworthy in the home when left on her own and she really needs to be treated as a respected member of the family.

Bella is very good on leash with the use of a gentle leader. She does pull at first but with a gentle correction she is quick to respond. When out on walks she can be overwhelmed with busy streets but with more exposure she is gaining confidence and is becoming calmer and calmer all the time. This is why we believe she would do best in a rural setting as she did not take well to the streets of Toronto's busy downtown. She is very responsive and will not leave your side even off leash however being in the city she must be leashed and she understands that and responds well. She has never tried to escape. She is good travelling in the car but does like to have the window down.

Bella's a gentle giant. She is a very affectionate girl once she has bonded to you. She is clean in the home and she does not get on the furniture without being told. Bella thrives with regular exercise. Taking her out is so rewarding as she frequently looks at you with a big grin on her face and tongue hanging out the side of her mouth! Bella constantly loves to make her people happy and with the right amount of exercise and attention she will continue to thrive. At night she is great , when she is told to go to bed she hops up on the couch in our room and quickly falls asleep frequently sleeping on her back with her paws in the air!

If you think you could offer this girl a wonderful new home and family with lots of love, please submit an application.
