Update from foster mom 6/2/15

Kileigh is in desperate need of an angel! Her life is about to change and she truly needs an angel to step up and give her a chance to shine. Kileigh has been in the same foster home since she was rescued from Alabama over two and a half years ago but her foster family is relocating to another state and can not take her with them. Kileigh is a special needs girl because she is still very mistrusting of people. She adores her foster mom and loves to be hugged by her, she is also very good with the foster family's children who are all under six. Now that does not mean the she is good with all kids so being placed in a home where the children are older and understand that Kileigh's personal space still needs to be respected. The foster family's children can crawl right into her crate with her and she is fine with them but she has known them since they were infants and they also are used to her and have been taught from the beginning to respect her space. She has been nothing but gentle with the kids in her life but to ensure as perfect a match as possible for Kileigh we think it is best that she go to a home with older children.

Kileigh is very obedient and likes to please, the foster family says they never had to train her. She was so eager to please and so grateful to be safe that she learned on her own and by following example of other dogs in her foster family. She is crate trained and will need to have a crate in her new home as she feels safe in her crate, the door can be left open but she stills likes her crate for security. She is a dog that will never be able to be off leash anywhere, and should be walked with a two separate leads on her because she is a guaranteed flight risk and if she gets out it will be very very hard to get her. She does well at her current home because she has a six foot chain link fence keeping her in the backyard but taking her for walks is challenging as she is still fearful of many things. One time on a walk something spooked her and she tried to back out of collar and she couldn't but she also refused to move and had to be carried home.

Kileigh has so many wonderful qualities and is filled with love to give, she just needs to find the person who is willing to allow her to trust a new person on her own time frame, the reward for giving her time to adjust and trust new people will be so worth the wait.

Kileigh's family is leaving in July so we ask if you think you have the time and the ability to foster her please contact the Last Resort ASAP.

Update from foster mom 11/4/13

Kileigh is a sweet girl who has made tremendous progress since she first came to the Last Resort. Kileigh is crate trained and housebroken. She likes most dogs and has no problems with cats. Kileigh is still a shy girl who takes her time getting to know anyone new. Kileigh is a very smart girl and learns quickly but she must trust you first so having the patience to let Kileigh take her time in getting to know you is crucial for Kileigh. Kileigh will do best in a home with an easy going dog and preferably someone who is home a lot which would allow Kileigh the time to get to know someone new. Kileigh has been in in her foster home since April and she still is slightly cautious; even though she loves her foster family, she still works on trusting them completely. Kileigh would do best with a devoted woman since she has a harder time trusting men and she does better with older children who understand that Kileigh needs her space. Kileigh is a diamond in the rough and she just needs someone who can have patience to let Kileigh love them on her terms and time schedule but once Kileigh starts trusting someone she is a sweet  love bug.

Update from foster mom 4/28/13

Kileigh is settling in well. She gets along with my dogs and cat. She loves playing ball and chasing my dogs in the backyard. She even gets along with the Dalamation next door. Kileigh has taken fancy to Trevor and follows him everywhere. She only barks on rare occasion and that usually is egged on by my dogs barking. She sleeps in the bed with me, taking over one of the pillows. She walks nicely on a leash. So far she hasn't chewed on anything or be destructive and I hope it stays that way. The only issue I have is with potty training...... I am failing at that. Guess I will be googling potty training today. She is such a sweet little girl, I am sure she will be adopted quickly.

Update 4/14/13 Foster found! I will be arriving to NJ on 4/23!

Hi my name is Kileigh!

I was born October 1, 2012. My siblings and I were surrendered to Macon County Humane Society in January. When I was first taken to South College Vet Clinic, they had discovered that I had been hit by a car a few days earlier and had two broken legs. They took special care of me and I’m much better now. I enjoy playing and cuddling with my foster siblings. As of right now,  I am working on potty training, socialization, and practicing good manners.  I look forward to meeting you, and I hope to find a loving family of my own soon.€¨Â€¨

Kileigh and her siblings (Kaleigh, Kelsey and Killabee) are currently located in AL. If we find a foster/adopter, we can have them brought right up!
