My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hershey: 4 year old, black/tan, neutered male, docked tail & natural ears, 10", 8.2 lbs. Shots up-to-date. Found as a stray.
Hershey is an active, loving dog. Rescued from a life on the streets, he was very thin, and in poor condition. Because of neglect, he has very little hair. That doesn't keep him from living up to his name which means 'deer' in German. Hershey is a very handsome guy!
Hershey is a little cautious meeting new people, but warms up when he feels safe and comfortable. He is good with small children, as well as cats and other dogs. He is a trusting, good natured dog, eager to learn and to please his person. He has adapted well to foster care, getting along well with my minpins, chihuahua, and my senior cat. He's very curious about my guinea pig, so he is learning to 'leave it'.
Hershey has a hearty appetite, showing no food aggression at all! Hershey is showing his smarts by learning "sit, wait, leave it, off, get back, and away". He will be also be learning "danger-not for dogs", like I have taught mine. Hershey responds very well to positive reinforcement and praise. He walks nicely on the leash too, and enjoys being walked.
Hershey is finally enjoying snuggling on the couch, and loves sleeping next to me in bed. He is crate trained, but prefers being with his people, being very interested in everything. Hershey has discovered dog toys and has fun playing with whatever he selects!
Hershey is also learning to stand when asked, as well as being still and patient while I look at his ears, teeth, and feet. He seems to take things in stride. Hershey is affectionate, independent, smart and loveable. He would do well with a person or family who wants an intelligent and active dog as part of a family. Someone to have him be a truly integral part of the family!
Note: Hershey is located in Roseville, CA - and we will not fly this boy.
