Lexi's Story...
My name is Lexi and I am a 2 year old pure bred Golden Retriever. My family could not longer care for me so they called AGK for help. When I went to the doctor, they said I had a heart murmur and I needed to see a special doctor. So off I went to UT Vet Hospital so they could figure out what is wrong with me. Turns out I have a level 3 sub aortic stenosis. They gave me medicine to help with my disease and they said I can still run and play. I was REALLY relieved to hear that! I do get tired a little easier than most girls my age, but it does not stop me from romping and stomping with the best of them. I love people, dogs and cats - well cats scare me a little but I just leave them alone. (Good cat strategy I am told). So I am waiting for a special home where I can live a golden life. The doctor said that my heart was in good condition for my disease and with medication I could live at least a couple more years, hopefully longer! I do like to prove people wrong sometimes!

If you are interested in adopting Lexi, please start the process by filling out an application on our website at www.adoptagoldenknoxville.org. One of our volunteers will be in touch within 48 hours of receipt of application.

NOTE: Adopt A Golden Knoxville rescue doesn't have an actual shelter building in your area. These dogs are fostered in private homes in East Tennessee. Therefore, it is not possible to meet the dogs and pups prior to their adoption. They are brought up north on a USDA transport

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Lexi, a Brattleboro Golden Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Golden Retriever for sale in Brattleboro, or seeking a Golden Retriever dog from a breeder in Brattleboro.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Brattleboro already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Brattleboro breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Golden Retriever breeders who help with Golden Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Brattleboro paves the way for another one to be saved.
