'Dear Somebody: My name is Slade. I live in a kennel behind a house. I was given to my mommy who was young and didn't have a place to live. Then she had a baby and dumped me off at her parents house when she realized I came with responsibilities. I live in a kennel behind a house and nobody has trained me or played with me in a while. A sweet woman who is 71 comes by and feeds me. She brings a little boy and he throws the food in my cage because he is too little and I'm rambunctious. I just want to love him but I'm too excited and I don't know how to control myself, because no one has taught me. My cage is filled with feces but the little boy throws my food in and it lands in my poop, but often I am hungry so I will eat it. This family can't take care of me. They have given me shelter, but I need a place to run and I need to get my shots and be healthy, with someone who has time to love me. Can you help me? I am about 1 year old. I need a home! A rescue! I need saved!'
How could I not help him? Since coming into rescue, Slade has proven to be a very affectionate dog. He is also incredibly strong and very active. He really needs someone with the time and energy to run him and help him burn off his excess energy. He loves to be with someone. He gets along well with female dogs but not with males. He is now neutered and up to date with shots and is heartworm negative. Slade is located here in Arkansas and will be transported to the northeast once adopted. Rescue Group Info...
Adopt-A-Stray Rescue was founded in Jan. 2010 by Kelley Prichard. Kelley saw a need for the unwanted pets at the local Animal Control to be given a chance at life. Adopt-A-Stray is a non profit (pending) Rescue group. We routinely pull dogs (and sometimes cats) from the euthanasia list at our local kill shelter. We also take in strays and owner surrenders as space/resources permit. Most of our available pets are located in ARkansas and are transported to the northeast once they are adopted or have a foster home to go to. The transporters we use most often are Got Orphans Transport (www.gotransporters.com) and Alpha Dog Transport (www.alphadogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations and are seen by our vet prior to going to their new homes. Please email for more info on our adoption procedures.
Call for an appointment. Since we dont have a physical shelter, it is important that you call or email before trying to meet the pets. We have most of them in foster homes, some here in Arkansas and some in the Northeast.
I required that all pets in the home are current on veterinary care - this includes vaccinations and heartworm prevention, minimum.
I require that every pet in the home (ok, maybe not fish and reptiles) be spayed/neutered unless there is a valid medical reason not to.
I have an adoption application and contract for each pet.
My adoption fee varies, depending on what type of pet, breed, age, and medical condition.
