Here's what the humans have to say about me:
On February 3rd, Friendship received a desperate plea for help from Holmes County. Their volunteers asked if we could pull a few of their adoptable dogs because they had just confiscated 71 dogs and puppies from a basement breeder! Our staff knew that Holmes legitimately only had room for about 20 dogs in their shelter – a shelter which is little more than a converted garage. We told their volunteers that a staff member would drive down the next day to pick up several dogs and puppies to house at our facility during the trial. Staff member Alyssa Bring and Executive Director Gregory Willey ended up bringing back 23 dogs. It was heartbreaking seeing 5-6 dogs stuffed in one cage.
On April 10th, Greg received word that the judge had ruled that the dogs were now able to be adopted out to new homes! As these dogs are adopted out Friendship will be rescuing more of the dogs still in Holmes County.
All the dogs rescued have very sweet dispositions. Some are still scared and some are shy. All will need to learn how to be dogs again. They will need families that are willing to be patient and work with them in their strange new wonderful world. All are looking for love and have lots of love to give in return.
Take one look at Lucy's face and you will see a dog with a kind and loving spirit. Lucy has spent most of her life in a cage so she is a little apprehensive especially when faced with new experiences. An understanding family, willing to give her some love, is all that she needs. Lucy gets along well with other dogs and loves to go for walks. Lucy would do best in a family with high school age children or adults. Although she is very gentle, young children may frighten her.
LUCY IS CURRENTLY LIVING IN A FOSTER HOME. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MEET HER, PLEASE CONTACT HER FOSTER MOM, BELINDA AT 440-567-2868.
June 20, 2013 Update from Abby, Lucy's co-foster mom. Abby is 12 years old.
Lucy~ She is doing great and has made excellent progress! She has gone into the living room voluntarily and hangs out with the dogs... her are Rufus love to play and wrestle. She is not depressed anymore and when we see another dog outside she starts whining and running wanting to go see the dog. She has barked a couple times, twice for my mom and I and once for Justin and when she barked for my dad she was sleeping and barking in her sleep like she was having a dream. She loves to run and drank a little bit of my coffee this morning. We gave her her first bath Tuesday and she freaked out but let us wash her up. But she is really funny because when we wash her bedding she won't lay on it for a couple hours because its clean.
She loves to be on our deck playing with the dogs... she is a totally different dog outside because she is so happy and playful. And then one last thing on Lucy... we were able to get her onto the couch yesterday and she fell asleep.
So she is making good progress and is coming along fine!
