My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

April is National Adopt a Greyhound Month!

Tamika is a cutie pie! She is a funny and playful girl who loves attention. She is young and may seem a bit unsure of new situations, but she adjusts quickly and is a total love bug. Tamika has even mastered the doggy door! She enjoys playing with stuffed animals and just hanging out. Tamika did show a lot of interest in cats and should not be trusted with them. If the behavior is strongly and consistently discouraged, this may improve with time. But, she does enjoy being around other greyhounds and has also responded well to meeting Jack Russell Terriers.

Tamika does have an immune system disease called symmetrical lupoid onychodystrophy. This disease only affects her toenails, but it does cause toenail sloughing which is painful and can be messy since they will bleed. She has been managed for about 8 months with high doses of fish oil at 6,000mg of fish oil daily. This seems to be working for her, but it is possible that she might need to receive additional medication in the future. Cutie Patootie Tamika is going to make a family very happy!

FOSTER UPDATE:
Tamika (Mika for short) is the sweetest girl! A bit shy at first but warms up to people very quickly. Our two greyhounds have welcomed her in and are enjoying teaching her what retired life is like. She is a pro at the doggie door, mastered the stairs very quickly, and beginning to get the idea of what leash manners are. The nail problem hasn’t shown any signs of being an issue, and with all the fish oil she eats it makes her fur incredibly soft. She has such a curious nature and everything seems to be a fun new adventure. She really is such a sweetheart!
