My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Violet is a deep soul. Like most deep souls, Violet is complex, always growing and evolving. She's not looking for the typical person or typical relationship or typical home. She's looking for her human soulmate. Despite being multi-faceted, Violet enjoys simplicity. She is a perfectionist and subject to the same fluctuations in self-esteem that humans with this trait experience. Violet is very ALIVE. She is soulful. She's a dog that looks you in the eye and understands more than one expects. She's very special... and her foster mom is looking for her special soul mate... not merely a "good home". The home that isn't home without Violet in it. Violet is extraordinarily sensitive. She finds the process of "dating" destabilizing. So the process to meeting Vi is one that is a bit cautious. However, this is not an indication that her foster mom isn't committed to placing Violet. She is. Like most dogs, there is a part of Violet that will blossom in a committed home. Violet waited a long time for that flowering. We hope it happens soon.

Violet is one of those charismatic beings that makes people happy wherever she goes. We think Violet deserves someone that will make her happy. Violet loves healthy relationship. She's good at it. We want a home that has the skills to live healthy relationship with Violet.

Violet is interesting in that she presents as highly extroverted, especially when she meets someone new. She's medium high energy. Loves toys. But really Violet is an introvert. She enjoys extroversion but is nourished by introverted times as a homebody. At home with family, Violet has occasional bursts of energy but is mostly low-key. How much time she needs out in the world and how much time she needs at home varies. But she's not going to be a go every dog... at least not at first. Possibly never. Not because she isn't well behaved. She's got "good girl" syndrome. The issue is that not enough down time overstimulates and overwhelms her.

Violet likes knowing how to be successful. Her ideal person is comfortable with rules and setting boundaries, especially in the beginning. However, at the same time, her person should not be militaristic, rigid or inflexible. Violet is relationship oriented. She is nourished by structure that is not rote. Yet, she does like a bit of routine.

Violet needs the rare person that truly listens and understands... Violet. Violet is very unique. Understanding Violet is not the same thing as "understanding dogs" Understanding Violet is a lifetime journey. She evolves. Getting "the basics of Violet" down will take time. Violet's person should enjoy personal growth. She could even make a lovely dog for a therapist. Violet is wonderfully intuitive. She's a very supportive being.

Violet used to be leash reactive and high prey drive. These are issues that were connected to anxiety, ineffective communication and the wrong combination of leadership and emotional safety. In the right home Violet should continue to be her well-behaved self.

Violet loves first and foremost, connecting with her person. She loves relationship-based training, balls and other toys, walks, car rides, cuddling in bed, cuddling on the sofa, cuddling on a pillow on the floor.

Are you an introvert that is both serious and seriously fun, that likes to explore the beauty of the world? Are you a gentle soul that can set a boundary? Are you a good communicator, a good listener and a good friend? When you look into Violet's smiling eyes, does the world move for you? If so, I think we might have your dog. Please feel out an application. Let us know why, out of all the dogs in the world, you feel Violet is the dog for you.
