My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adopted with Lady 5/28/13!!!

If you love purebred Golden Retrievers, and if you have enough room in your heart for two, consider opening your home to this wonderful 9-year old couple. There are not enough superlatives to describe them.

Ringo and Lady are with a foster family who says you would never guess they spent most of their time outside in a yard, before their elderly owner, who could no longer care for them, contacted Sunshine. They are so well behaved and could not be more sweet. Smiling and happy, Ringo, the big red boy, loves to play ball. Lady, his chubby but gorgeous "wife," prefers to chase squirrels, but cannot catch them. Neither is a couch potato and Lady has already lost 4 lbs. since being with Sunshine and getting better food plus exercise. As she continues to lose weight she is going to be absolutely beautiful. Ringo is 85 lbs., and Lady is 100 lbs, so both are losing weight and already feeling better.

As long as they are together they are as happy as can be. Lady adores Ringo and becomes nervous if she cannot see him. She joined him in his home after she was rescued from an abusive first home, and they have been in love ever since. They enjoy riding in the car and, while Ringo would prefer to sit up front, Lady behaves well in the back seat. She is good on a leash, while he pulls and needs to learn leash manners. Both are good with other dogs and adored their former owner's grandchildren. Both are very affectionate and as sweet as you could ever hope for. Ringo loves to give kisses and is a smart boy and a quick learner. The pair sleep together and are like a married couple. They behave well in the house and love attention.

Although they lived in a back yard and their only inside experience was in an air-conditioned workshop on their property, they were always kept up to date on vaccinations, heart worm, flea and tick preventative. Since being with Sunshine, we have treated Ringo for ear infections, and Lady has started eye drops in one eye that has a slight entropian condition to keep her eye comfortable. Both are taking anti-inflammatories to help their mobility and they are doing great! Watch their video to see how beautiful they are.

Ringo and Lady are going to make a Golden-loving family so very happy, and all they ask for is to stay together, have time with their people, and for the love they have missed for so long. If you are ready to give two wonderful Goldens the retirement years they have earned, please apply!

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog - make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
