FOR MANY MONTHS WE HAVE BEEN TRACKING THE SLOW DEGRADATION OF SOME HORSES. DUE TO THE VAST AND DENSELY WOODED PROPERTY THEY WERE ON MANY TIMES WE THOUGHT THEY HAD BEEN MOVED, ONLY TO GET A GLIMPSE OF THEM YET AGAIN.

ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO WE GOT A CALL FROM A NEIGHBOR WHO SAID THAT THE REMAINING FILLY ON THE PROPERTY WAS NOT BEING CARED FOR AND THE OWNERS HAD ABANDONED HER.

AT THAT TIME WE WENT OUT AND FOUND THE LITTLE FILLY AND BEGAN FEEDING HER AND KEEPING AN EYE ON HER. WE WERE NOT SURE WHO THE OWNERS WERE AND LEGALLY OUR HANDS WERE TIED AT THE TIME.

SEVERAL WEEKS AGO WE POSTED PICTURES OF HER FINALLY AND TOLD EVERYONE ABOUT HER STORY. HE HAVE BEEN FEEDING HER CONTINUALLY EVER SINCE TRYING TO FIND THE OWNERS.

THIS MORNING THE OWNERS WERE FOUND AND THEY SURRENDERED THE FILLY TO AS AT APPROXIMATELY 12PM.

AT THAT TIME A TEAM OF OUR VOLUNTEERS AND 2 OF THE VAL VERDE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES WENT TO WORK TRYING TO CATCH THE LITTLE FILLY.

SHE IS IN HORRIFIC SHAPE AND HAS NEVER BEEN HANDLED. COUPLE THAT WITH THE FACT THAT SHE IS SCARED, STARVED AND IN PAIN AND WE HAD OUR WORK CUT OUT FOR US. ABOUT 3 PLUS HOURS OF WORK.

IN THE PROCESS OF CORRALLING THE FILLY WE MADE THE GRUESOME DISCOVERY OF HER MOTHERS DECOMPOSING BODY. SHE HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED FROM THE PROPERTY LIKE WE THOUGHT, BUT HAD IN FACT STARVED TO DEATH AND DIED INSIDE A LITTLE MAKE SHIFT SHED IN THE CORRAL.

THE LITTLE FILLY LED US RIGHT TO HER. OUR HEARTS BROKE AS WE WATCHED HER APPROACH WHAT WAS ONCE HER MOTHER AND PROTECTOR. HORSES ARE HERD ANIMALS AND HAVING A HERD AND COMPANION IS VITALLY IMPORTANT OT THEIR MENTAL HEALTH. WE COULD ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THIS LITTLE HORSE HAD SUFFERED ALL ALONE FOR SO LONG.

THE LITTLE FILLY WENT DOWN ON US ONCE IN THE PROCESS OF LOADING HER, CONFIRMING OUR GREATEST FEARS ABOUT HER DETERIORATED STATE.

WE WERE ABLE TO GET HER LOADED THANKS TO THE HELP OF THE VAL VERDE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPT AND A COUPLE OF WONDERFUL COWBOYS WHO CAME OVER FROM THE STOCK YARDS WITH A HUGE STOCK TRAILER AND ANOTHER HORSE TO HELP HER FEEL SAFE.

ONCE LOADED WE RUSHED HER TO DR. MARTIN'S OFFICE WHERE SHE WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR AWHILE. ONCE SHE WAS HEALTHY ENOUGH TO BE MOVED SHE WENT TO A FOSTER, THIS YOUNG HORSES LIFE WILL FOREVER MORE BE IN LOVING HANDS.  IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS LOVELY FILLY - PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE.

About A Pets Wish Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

A Pets Wish Animal Rescue is a 501c3 Non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals ,primarily dogs & cats from high-kill shelters and owners who
can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers , foster homes, local veterinarians & boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every
year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well matched, carefully screened forever homes. We will be working on serving as a resource to our community and
all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership starting with the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training and good nutrition.

All our Staff, Volunteers & Fosters receive no pay ,work many hours to help the community and promote a better life for animals that are unwanted. We strive to give every
animal a warm and comfortable home and try to place them with a forever family that have have the ability to care for the animal as a family member & friend for life.

Our goal is to work with shelters, humane organizations, and other rescue organizations to build a larger Shelter/Rescue for Val Verde County and Surrounding Counties.
Also we would like to work with the Community help open up a low-cost spay/neuter clinic to help with our long term goal which is to save the lives of unwanted and abandoned
or needlessly killed puppies & kittens born every day!

We desire to create a new world for homeless & unwanted pets, support and manage a low cost spay and neuter program/Clinic, set up a larger system to foster homes and
maintain a flexible adoption program.

Our Adoption Process...

Being that we are a 501c3 we run soley on what we get in donations from local sponsors. We also still have to pay out of pocket and depend on Donations to adopt from the local animal control which still charges us a pull fee to rescue and save the lives of these poor pets. We charge normally for the cost of the Spay/Neuter, shots and medical treatment. If this cost is high it is normally looked over and forgiven from the new adopter. We get a lot of puppies whose moms are euthenised and so there is a lot of time and care taken to raise these little guys. Our adoption fee starts at $65.00- $100.00 for cats/kittens & $65.00- $200.00 for Dogs/Puppies. Each Pet is placed in only proper homes according to their size, breed and temperament. Every animal that leaves this organization is Microchipped / Vet checked/De-wormed/HWT(if over a year) / Flea & Tick treated & Spayed or Neutered if over 6 months of age (if younger we make the appointment for them at 6 months which is already paid for in their adoption fee). No Animals will be Chained and we also do home checks after the adoption process.
