Fluffy has an extraordinary dream... On one very special day, a family comes to Free Spirit to take Fluffy out to play. They kindly offer her a brand new toy, her most favorite thing. She sits right down and her heart begins to sing. Her eyes get big and wide and then she casually throws her head to one side. She bats her long, beautiful eyelashes - in a Betty Boop sort of way- thinking to herself, 'Could this really be the day?'. Fluffy gently takes the toy from them and begins to run about, tossing it into the air and bouncing it off of her snout. They quickly learn that it truly is a pleasure just to watch Fluffy play. She exudes pure happiness and you tend to feel that same way! Next, they give her a giant Milkbone and she takes it and places it down on the grass. She jumps forward at it and then jumps back. Nudges it with her nose, barks at it, and then rolls on it with her back. What they have just witnessed is the classic Fluffy 'snack-attack'! She gives them the show that they so desired... they giggle and laugh and feel inspired. Fluffy hears these people talking about a large fenced-in yard, where she can run about freely or simply lay under the shade of a tree. 'All for me?'. Her heart fills up with joy. 'Oh, Boy! Oh, Boy!'. Trying not to get too excited, she kisses their hands because she's so delighted. One bends down and gives Fluffy a hug. She reciprocates with with a lick because she's just a giant love-bug. Once these people learn that Fluffy is completely crate trained and potty trained, too, they discuss it amongst themselves and decide that there is only one thing left to do. They excitedly sign on the dotted line and make Fluffy's awesome dream come true! Could this be you? We all hope that this day, for Fluffy, will come soon. The other dogs at the rescue, will be so happy for her, that they will howl at the moon!

About Free Spirit Siberian Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Free Spirit Siberian Rescue has been helping homeless Huskies and Husky mixes since 1999. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue located in northern Illinois, dedicated to placing our dogs in permanent, loving homes. By adopting a homeless pet, you will be giving two animals--the one you adopt and the other that will have a place available at our rescue--a second chance at life.

We operate solely from donations and are volunteer driven. Please mail all donations to Free Spirit Siberian Rescue
P.O. Box 626
Harvard, IL 60033

Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Please visit our website for more information about how you can help.

Our Adoption Process...

We review and pre-screen applications in the order they are received. If we have any immediate questions or concerns, we contact you by email. If the application looks good on paper, we have one of our Adoption Coordinators call for a phone interview. We'll check references (including landlord and vet if appropriate). Depending on the responsiveness of the references, this step can take some time. Our adoption screening process allows us to get to know you and your family, so that we can make informed suggestions about dogs that would best suit your personality, lifestyle, and household (including other adults, kids, current dogs, and cats).

If you are approved for adoption, we'll then arrange a time for you to come to the rescue and meet some of the rescue dogs. Because we are an all volunteer run organization, we need to schedule a time for you to visit the rescue. Appointment times are limited and are reserved for individuals/families who have been approved for adoption. We require all household members, including current dogs, to be present at the appointment. The meet and greet helps to ensure that the dog is a good match for your family in general and any current dog(s) in particular. Current dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines, on Heartworm prevention medication, and kept inside as indoor family members (per the terms and conditions of our Adoption Contract).

We cannot hold dogs and cannot guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of the appointment. We also suggest that you review our website ( for the most current information and do your best to identify a few dogs that you may be interested in. Additionally, if you can explain why you've selected them that also helps us to identify the characteristics that are most important to you which will assist us in making a better match between you and a potential dog.

If an adoption match is made, you should be prepared to provide a deposit by cash or check. A minimum of ½ of the adoption fee is required. Note that adoption fees vary by age of the dog. Please visit our website for a detailed scale and information about what the adoption fee covers.

You will then schedule a delivery date. The dog will be groomed prior to going home and delivered at a later scheduled date with all medical records. Dogs will not be delivered the same day as the adoption appointment. We must transport the dog to you in order to do a home inspection at the time of delivery.

If you meet the above requirements with your current dog/cat, are over 21, within a four-hour drive of Harvard, IL and are interested in adopting through us, please fill out an application at

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at

We look forward to receiving your application.
