I am already neutered, housetrained, purebred, up to date with shots, good with kids, and good with dogs.
From underdog to wonderdog!
With two broken legs and a broken pelvis, little beagle boy, Gus, found himself stuck at the bottom of a ditch under a cold, windy, threatening winter sky. Undaunted, Gus marshalled his courage, pulled his entire weight up onto his front feet and set out to scale the incline to freedom in a “hand”stand. Despite his mighty will, Gus was no match for gravity so in the ditch he remained—for how long, we don’t know—but the light was fading fast when a passing motorist spotted him. Gus got a lift and, with it, a second chance. The little trooper continued to pull himself up by his own bootstraps until our friends at Treasure Hills were able to get him in for surgery. For a month Gus manuevered about with two stiffly wrapped legs, viewing the world from the deep end of an e-collar.
Gussy has been liberated from his constraints and is getting around like a pro: running, playing, accomplishing astonishing feats of evasion and escape. A master of push, slide, and squeeze, Gus can dodge and slip past household barriers like cat burgler on an obstacle course. Even during his handstand days, he managed to get up and down ramps and stacked railroad ties. The boy is a model of determination. Check out “before” videos here:
Gussy’s on the go! “after” video is on the Out of the Woods Facebook page.
Gus weighs about 32 lbs and is estimated to be about 3 years old. He is up-to-date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Gus is housetrained but occasionally backslides into marking. We’re working on it. Gus hides upon hearing gunshots... he isn't a candidate for a hunting dog.
