Tanner's Story...
This is Tanner, a three year old Aussie/lab neutered male. If you are looking for a family dog that can handle anything life has to offer, he is it. He is great with and loves the kids, is so tolerant of other dogs it is amazing (even when directly confronted he will turn away), and he is gentle with the cats and non-reactive toward livestock. If your kids want a dog to hug, this big boy would love to be the recipient. He was obviously well loved and cared for before coming into rescue and he loves to hang out with us no matter what we are doing, from hanging out on the couch to walks in the fields. He would make a great jogging partner or a foot warmer on the couch - you choose. He comes when called and stays close when off leash. He knows (and responds to) commands to sit and down and is housetrained - he barks when he needs to go outside. The Labrador half of him cannot resist some counter surfing and while in his foster home he has stolen food directly from a small child's hand with no apparent remorse. We are working on removing the small Labrador devil from his shoulder but the Aussie angel on the other shoulder has more influence by far.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Tanner, a Elk River Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever for sale in Elk River, or seeking a Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Elk River.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Elk River already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Elk River breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Elk River paves the way for another one to be saved.
