Bear's Story...
Bear is a brown and tan male mixed breed and the largest of the litter.
Born 3/6/13, it is a guess as to breed this litter. They have some Hound/Retriever look to them and their mom resembled a Labrador mix. The mom was a stray that "just showed up" at her rescuer’s house and she was very emaciated.  With good food she gained weight quickly. Quite to the surprise of everyone, she gave birth to this beautiful litter.  She developed mastitis, then went septic and had a seizure and that was the end of her short life of being loved! She left behind this beautiful litter for us to care for and find great homes for in her honor!

If you interested in adopting Bear or another JCAPL pet you have seen? You'll need to start by completing an adoption application, available online at our website: www.jcapl.org. There is no obligation to adopt by completing an application, however, we do recommend submitting an application as soon as you find an animal you are interested in. We review applications in the order they are received.

Completed applications can be sent via email to adopt@jcapl.org, faxed to 919-300-5524, or delivered in person by visiting us at one of our adoption events on Saturdays at PetSmart in Garner (White Oak Shopping Center).

We will contact you as soon as possible once we receive your application for Bear.

Thanks for thinking adoption!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bear, a Smithfield Retriever (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) puppy was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) for sale in Smithfield, or seeking a Retriever (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) puppy from a breeder in Smithfield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Smithfield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Smithfield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Retriever (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Retriever (Unknown Type)/Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Smithfield paves the way for another one to be saved.
