My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are familiar with the phrase “bright as a new penny,” then you will easily understand how this pretty girl got her name. Our Penny is smart and happy with a shining personality that will light up your day. She is an extremely loving girl who likes to sit at the feet of her foster mom and dad and gesture with her paw to remind them that she is overdue for a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ears. For Penny any attention is good attention, so she loves grooming – even the part where she gets her nails clipped.

Penny came to MWCR from a loving home where she was very well cared for. Unfortunately, changes in the family made it hard for them to give her as much attention as she deserved, so they made the hard decision to give her up. Now she is ready and eager to begin a new phase of her life with her forever family.

Penny is a well behaved girl with excellent manners. She is fully house trained and her foster family says she can be left alone for 6 to 8 hours once she is familiar with her surroundings, so they have never crated her. She knows a variety of commands including “sit,” “give paw,” “down,” and “come.” She is working on “stay” and “leave it.” She rides well in the car, usually sleeping peacefully in the back seat. Penny's foster home has a 3 foot fence around their yard and she has never tried to jump it. She would ideally prefer a fenced yard at her new home, but with training could do without one. She is a bit plump at 80 pounds and is working on losing a few pounds before swimsuit season. Penny walks pretty well on her leash and doesn't pull, however she is easily distracted and likes to investigate new and unfamiliar things.

Penny loves people of all ages and sizes. Initially she is a little shy with strangers, and takes a few minutes to “size them up” before she snuggles up to be petted. She is extremely gentle with young children, but because she is a big girl, she could accidentally knock a toddler over if something startled her. Penny is excellent with other dogs and though her foster home does not include cats, in her original home she lived in harmony with two kitties.

Penny is a versatile girl who is beautiful both inside and out. She could live happily as part of a family that included other dogs, kids and cats or she would make a loving companion to a single person or couple. Anyone who is looking to add a little sparkle to their lives couldn't do better than our bright, shining Penny.
