Facts about Mici

  • Breed: Domestic Shorthair
  • Color: Tortoiseshell
  • Age: Senior
  • Sex: Female
  • Hair: Short
Hi, my name is Mici (pronounced Meetchee). My name is Romanian and means “small”. I’m a small cat so I think this name fits me pretty well, even though I’ve never been to Romania.

I like this quote by Charles Dickens, “What greater gift than the love of a cat.” I am ready to give my love to a special person, one who is patient and kind and understanding.

You see, I’m in the FIV room here at MaxFund. I have tested positive for FIV. What does that mean? It means that I shouldn't live with someone who smokes. FIV is not transmittable to dogs or people, and it is transmitted to cats only via penetrating bites. Even with FIV, I can live a long healthy life but because I have FIV, most people will rule me out without even meeting me. So I’m a little discouraged.

But I won’t give up. Every time someone comes into my room, I hold out hope that they are coming to meet me. And that they will take the time to see beyond the wall I have built up around me, to protect me from being hurt or disappointed. And they will choose me. And that they will take me home. And I will love that person with all the will that my small body has.

So please, couldn’t you be my special person and come find me today? I am ready to share my gift with you.

About MaxFund No-Kill Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

The MaxFund is a non-profit organization that was established in May of 1988 to provide medical care for injured pets with no known owners, and to seek out new homes for these animals once they have recovered. The MaxFund is a no-kill dog and cat shelter. MaxFund assists hundreds of people and animals each year by trying to make the correct match between owner and pet. MaxFund adopts our animals to Colorado residents only.

The MaxFund is a TRUE no-kill shelter. There is no pre-sorting of animals into "adoptable" and "non-adoptable" categories, discarding the so-called "unadoptable." The MaxFund takes every animal it has the space for. EVERY animal is kept until its owner is found or it is placed in a new adoptive home.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption fees:

Cats: $25
Kittens (under 12 months): $75
Dogs: $125
Puppies (under 6 months) $200
Dogs over 8 years: $75

All applicants will be asked to submit the names and phone numbers of 3 personal references (relatives don't count), the name and phone number of your veterinarian if you have one, the name and phone number of your landlord (if applicable) and information about your current living situation. We also require that all immediate family members meet the animal prior to adoption to ensure compatibility. We would hate to adopt an animal into a family and later find out the dog doesn't like the kids or the husband doesn't like the animal, etc. You can print out an application on our website at maxfund.org.

If you are interested in adopting a dog and have filled out an application, MaxFund will ask you to bring any currently owned dogs to the shelter for a “meet-and-greet” to ensure they can stand each other before they become a family. Because we examine adoption applications carefully and contact all references, same-day adoptions are extremely rare and should not be expected!
