Here's what the humans have to say about me:
My name is now Mari. I was left at a West Virginia shelter 23 days ago. I’ve been living here for a while with different kennel mates. I’d see some get adopted, and others would walk to the door that smells like death. Everyone here in the shelter has been very nice to me but I knew they couldn’t keep me here forever. No one wanted to adopt me. I don’t know why, since I wagged my tail as hard as I could to show people how nice I am! I tried to yell at the people who passed me by to tell them to adopt me, but no one would listen. Then I heard I got put on the “Code Red” list. That meant my time was up. I’d have to walk down to the door no dog ever came back from if no one committed to rescue me by 5pm on Wednesday, May 1st. I shook with fear and began to accept that I would die alone on a table with no one to comfort me. This scared me so much. I was such a good girl and loved my people unconditionally! Why would they let me die alone and so very scared?
My luck didn’t seem so good until DCSIR happened across my photo on Facebook. They saw the fear and sadness in my eyes and just knew that I was a good girl. They sent my picture out to their DCSIR Foster list telling everyone and anyone who would listen that they needed someone to save my life and give me a temporary home. Then, something wonderful happened. What could have been a tragic end turned into a second chance. A previous adopter of DCSIR had recently lost their other beloved Shiba Inu and were ready to help rescues like me! Since I’ve been so good with all the dogs in the shelter, they think I’ll get along great with my new foster brother while I wait for my forever home.
Mari is high energy and very playful. She loves other dogs and people. She has not been tested with cats. She is frightened by small children and will bark and growl at them so we feel she would do best in a home with teenagers+.
