SHELDON's Story...

THIS IS SHELDON....or "Shelly" to his close friends -- which he doesn't love because that's a girl name and this boy is all male! Sheldon is a grizzle colored, 13 lb (but small in stature, big in personality), 1-2 yr old, Shih Tzu -- possibly a mix -- who has not had a happy life. He came into the shelter with his right eye dangling, and they removed it immediately. We're not sure if he got into a fight or was abused, but whatever it was, it did make Sheldon a little fearful. When he trusts you....he is a happy go lucky puppy...but he loves to growl talk, so that means no kids! His best environment would be in a non chaotic environment with one or two family members and lots and lots of love and reinforcement -- BUT he needs structure. He needs training and to know that it is not okay to just growl because you don't like something! Even when he gets a little snippy, he doesn't mean to hurt, he just doesn't want you to hurt him!! Sheldon will snap out of fear, which is triggered by being grabbed, moved or picked up when he is not expecting it! His new parents must read his body language to understand when he is comfortable with being moved or picked up. Do not disturb him when he’s sleeping. Other than that quirk, Sheldon is a happy and hyper puppy. He loves belly rubs and to be scratched. He doesn’t bark much, if at all. He loves playing fetch, squeaky toys, being walked and most of all he loves car rides. He is a wonderful little guy who needs a patient home, where he will be spoiled to life and not to death! He needs to know that you are the boss of him and not the other way around. Another dog...maybe a female...would be fine -- but most of all, he wants to be your shadow.

Our website is updated daily. Please do not apply for this dog unless your home fits the specified criteria. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, groomed, vet checked, dewormed, deflea'd and come with a leash, collar and ID tag!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

SHELDON, a Los Angeles Shih Tzu dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shih Tzu for sale in Los Angeles, or seeking a Shih Tzu dog from a breeder in Los Angeles.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Los Angeles already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Los Angeles breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shih Tzu breeders who help with Shih Tzu rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Los Angeles paves the way for another one to be saved.
