My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

7/13/13 - I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!

Adoption Fee: $400

Fostered in Louisiana

Age: 3 years

Weight: 13

6/14/13 - Samson has been with us for almost 2 months and he is doing great! He is not as terrified of the cats anymore (one of ours revels in beating up on the new foster pups the first week) and he will even approach them now. He loves playing with our dogs and desperately wants to go play with our neighbor’s small dogs.

He loves his foster daddy and even is coming around with other men who come by to visit but he is still wary of them at first until he gets to know them better (bribes work well). And if he knows you, he gets very excited to see you, almost jumping out of his skin. He loves to play and run in the yard but he is very much a snuggle buddy. When you are on the couch he is usually sitting next to you. He sleeps well in the bed amongst all our other animals and will sometimes snuggle, sometimes sleep at the foot of the bed and sometimes sleep on a dog bed on the floor.

He can make it through the night without needing to go out to potty but if you take him out he goes. He has had no accidents in the house while we sleep. He no longer wears a belly band to correct peeing inside. As long as you make sure you see him go while outside, he doesn't go inside. In order to get him to go quicker I will take him out on a leash until he tinkles and then we are good to go, plus he is now on a routine for when he goes number 2. I take him out on the leash so I can physically see him tinkle, because the rule of thumb is, if I don’t see him go, he usually hasn’t and will then tinkle inside. He now even lets us know when he needs to go potty, but you have to pay attention to his tip offs that he needs to go "outside".

He still likes tearing up toys but we have found a few that are durable enough for him. Mainly Kong toys that are made from fire hose material. So far they are mostly intact. He also has calmed down with pulling the fuzz off of tennis balls now that he has appropriate toys and is used to them being around. He still sometimes tries to chew on other things like socks or a blanket but with a gentle correction and giving him a toy he easily transfers to the appropriate chew toy.

He is very inquisitive and wants to know what you are doing and gets into the middle of everything. He is a great dog and has settled in perfectly in our home but is still waiting for his forever home so we can save another baby. So if you like a very cuddly, sweet natured, gets along with everyone kind of guy then Samson is your boy. He might be bit bigger than most yorkie's but it is just more to luv!

5/8/13 - They say, “That what doesn't kill me, will only make you stronger”. Well Samson must be strong as an ox. First off, he was picked up by animal control running the streets all alone, hungry, scared and tired. He thought his lucky day had come when he was adopted from the shelter and finally had a family to call his own. Unfortunately, that did not last either (6 months). The family wasn’t able to potty train Samson and said that he was afraid of men. So while they looked for him another home, they sent him to live with another family member (for about 6 months). Finally, they contacted Yorkie Haven and they we were able to find a foster home for this loveable, handsome guy.

Samson has been at his foster home about 5 weeks now and it seems that his potty training habits are excellent. He just needs to be brought out, watched to make sure he goes and then brought back in. He is more fond of the women, but is fine around the men that we have seen. At first meeting, he is 1% more shy of them, but isn’t scared of them, just unsure right at first. It is obvious that a man was mean to him in his previous life.

Samson loves to play with other dogs. He is in a foster home with larger dogs (60 lbs.) and plays rough with them, but has been around another 10 lb. yorkie and played with that one just as well. In his foster home is also cats and he is doing fine with them as well. He eats great, is fine with a bath, walks well on a leash and loves to sit in your lap or be held.

Now Samson isn’t your typical small yorkie. He is 13 lbs., a little taller and a little longer which makes him a great size to take walking/jogging and play fetch with. He will need a fenced in yard since he loves to run around at top speed in the backyard to play.

Actually, if we have to find one thing, Samson’s only downfall is that he destroys toys. Any that are destructable. He destuffs them. He is seriously in love with tennis balls and is very toy fixated. He loves kongs and other hard toys as well, but his favorite is the good ole tennis ball.

Samson will make a pet and companion for some lucky family that is wanting to add an additional pet. He loves attention, but doesn’t smother you and will go off and play with the other furkids or toys.

Adding Samson to you home is really a no-brainer. You would be the lucky one to own him even though he is in need of a home.
