Doctor Watson is an eight-years-young terrier mix who came to us with the whiskery beard of a pygmy goat and a joy for living, despite a tough past. His beard has now gone the way of the cold weather, but we're pretty sure it will come back in the winter! We can tell Dr. Watson was not always treated kindly and so he is shy on first acquaintance, especially with men and with young children who tend to scare him with their unrestrained activity! Once he warms up to you, he treats you as if you are the best thing he has ever set eyes on. He has been living with a foster mom and a foster dog sister for the past three months and his life includes lots of doggie and human socialization which has helped him build his confidence. Dr. Watson needs a gentle, loving home with humans who will continue to work with him to become the confident dog we know he can be. He LOVES going for walks, car rides, swimming (including hopping in the bath tub!), and most importantly, cuddling.
Dr. Watson is frisky and playful, and ADORES squeak toys. He has beautiful manners and never jumps up onto furniture or a lap without an invitation. He knows SIT and SHAKE HANDS and loves to learn new things. He is a cuddlebug and he gets along just fine with both dogs and cats, although if you asked him, he'd probably tell you he likes people the most!
Dr. Watson is a really special dog who has won our hearts and will win yours too! He is housebroken, neutered, up to date on his shots, is heartworm negative and had a recent dental. Although Dr. Watson regularly spends time at home without his foster Mom, we believe he would do best in a home where someone was around at least part of the time and/or in a home with a doggie companion. Because of his shyness, we don't recommend a home with young children.
What you will get in return for giving this very sweet dog a forever home is a darling and devoted companion who will make you laugh and brighten every single day. Don't let the fact that he is middle aged scare you off...he is a lively boy with plenty of years left. You didn't really want to make a 15 year commitment anyway, right?
