My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pick me, Pick me!

My name is Oliver and I’m a 2-3 year old Merle Great Dane. My family surrendered me to the Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue because they could no longer care for me. It was a pretty big adjustment for me because I was really attached to my mom. You see, I came from an abusive home and I always felt I needed to protect my mom. I’m still shy around men but I’m trying to learn they won’t hurt me or hurt the pretty girls in my life! My foster mom is great and has men come over and give me a treat! That’s pretty exciting and helps me associate good things from these big people I’m unsure of!

I lived with a cat, small dog and human kids in my home. I’ve been known to cuddle up close to the kitty! The small dog did not like me and would try to nip at me so I would talk to him and tell him “I’m way bigger than you, leave me alone!” I enjoyed being around the human kids as long as they didn’t yell or become physical. If they did, I would get scared and think I had to protect my mom again!

Since I’ve been in my foster home, I’ve made a lot of improvements! I was so unsure of my surroundings…I just couldn’t be myself! I’m happy to say, I’ve overcome most of my worries and now I’m a big cuddler! I love attention and to be pet as much as a human will pet me! I do love to lay on my dog bed and catch some Z’s from time to time! I’m your typical Great Dane when it comes to zoomies! I’ve been known to run in crazy circles when I get excited to go for a walk! I do know sit, shake, and speak but I’m still working on what down and stay mean.

I guess I should be honest with you and tell you the one thing I’m struggling with right now. I do not like my crate one bit! I want to be with people and when I’m in my crate I’m all alone. My foster mom does a great job of telling me it is ok and that someone will always come back for me but I’m not too trusting of that yet. You see, I was left in an apartment with only a kitty for two days. Now I’m a little scared I’m going to be left again. I tend to whine and bark in my crate and if I could figure out how to escape, I would! I’m so happy my foster mom is patient and trying to teach me it is ok! If you are my forever family, will you continue to show me I don’t have to be afraid of going in my crate?

I would really like to join your family! Please adopt me today so we can cuddle, play, and laugh all day!

Hugs to you!

Oliver
