My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Can I be your jewel?

My name is Pearl and I’m a 3 year old white Great Dane. As my color might tell you, I am deaf. I came to Forever Friends from another rescue because they thought Forever Friends had more resources to help a special needs girl like me! Boy, were they right! My foster mom is teaching me hand signals for “sit” and “come” but I do respond well to my signal for “down.” Learning is a little tricky for me but I’m making some improvements! I still struggle with that leash walking stuff. I still pull and zig zag all over the place! I rely so heavily on my nose and eyes so I just want to smell everything on both sides of my path at once! My foster mom is working with me on that as well! I am crate trained and house trained and I personally think those are big accomplishments!!

My foster mom tells everyone I’m both energetic and loving! That’s the perfect combination, don’t you agree? I like to follow my humans around and want to be right with them. I do have some foster siblings that I have recently met. I do fairly well with them but sometimes I’m a little bossy! One of my favorite activities is being outside and running like the wind! I love that freedom and because of that and my lack of hearing I MUST go to a home with a fence. No exceptions to that, it wouldn’t be fair to me!

Oh, I’ve also discovered these things called toys in my foster home! At first I couldn’t understand why all these toys were around but I quickly figured out how fun they are! I do like to relax and chew on a bone after I’ve worn myself out.

My biggest improvement since being in foster home is allowing my humans to touch me on the head and face. I was very afraid of that! Now that I know it won’t hurt, I nuzzle up to get some love! It’s the best feeling in the world!

For the remainder of my time in foster care, I’ll be working hard to be the perfect companion for you! I will be introduced to more dogs, cats, and kids to see if I like them! I will work on more of my hand signals so that I know what humans expect from me. I will also have to work on not growling at other dog’s while they are eating! I finish my food really fast and then I think maybe I can sneak some of theirs….my foster mom is telling me no, though!

If you have the room in your home for a sweet girl like me and have experience with deaf dogs, fill out an application, please!

XOXO,

Pearl
