Portia's Story...
Portia is now in foster care. To meet Portia, contact her foster mom at radiojock@cox.net.

Meet Portia! This lab mix may look like every other dog in the shelter, but her personality is as unique as can be! This girl originally came into the shelter with her sister, Ellen, and a litter of puppies. Because they could never figure out who the puppies belonged to, they all stayed together. Now the puppies are long gone (adopted!) along with the sister Portia had probably been with since birth, leaving her all by herself. But Portia hasn't let this get her down! She has transferred that loving nature straight from her puppies to people. At around 3 years old, she is learning her tricks at a very quick pace and has shown indications of past potty training. Portia likes to play with other dogs and loves the ball, although she is still learning the rules of fetch, preferring her own game of grab and run!

At around 55 pounds, Portia will need an active family that can play just as much as they could cuddle! She is used to a "pack" so she wold love siblings, animals and humans alike. All this girl really wants is a family to call her own and a spot on the couch to watch the latest episode of "Sister Wives."

So will you give this girl her new family?

All dogs adopted through Friends of the Animals are current on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. For more information about FOTA or to make a donation, please visit http://www.friendsoftheanimalsbr.org/.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Portia, a Baton Rouge Labrador Retriever dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Labrador Retriever for sale in Baton Rouge, or seeking a Labrador Retriever dog from a breeder in Baton Rouge.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Baton Rouge already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Baton Rouge breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Labrador Retriever breeders who help with Labrador Retriever rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Baton Rouge paves the way for another one to be saved.
